Reishi contains two types of bioactive compounds: beta-D-glucans (a form of polysaccharide) and triterpenes (triterpenoids). Glucans can also differ based on their structure. Mushrooms grown on grain substrate are high in alpha-glucans, whereas mushrooms produced on wood substrate are high in beta-glucans.
Ganoderma lucidum's triterpenes are derived from the use of wood as a substrate. As a result, if Reishi was grown on grain, it will have little or no triterpenes.
